Lowrie Foods Ltd - Website Design

Lowrie Foods

With over a century of trading in the Newcastle Upon Tyne and Northeast, Lowrie Foods trusted Clarity to deliver their first major venture online.

Their new website provides details of one of the UK’s most respected catering suppliers and includes a system that allows their customers to place orders online for local delivery.

100 years with modern appeal

The design for the Lowrie Foods website was achieved after a process of communication that Clarity adopt for all new clients.  Tom Lowrie and his team were given an initial design draft after we’d discussed their brand values, direction, target audience and the result they wanted from the site.

What we’ve delivered is an incredibly bright yet professional website that immediately tells the visitor, through visual appeal, of the sector the Lowrie Foods operate in and their core values.

Like all Clarity Web Design Newcastle sites, the design is custom and specific to Lowrie Foods.

Online Ordering

This particular project was unusual in that Lowrie Foods needed the ability for customers to place orders online but on account terms with no payment gateway – but for the future functionality to be there if required.

The online ordering system we’ve developed was written from scratch and even allows for what are known as catch-weight products in the world of catering and food retail.  Indeed, the whole back-end CMS of the website caters (no pun intended!) for future expansion with configurable fields that may not be of use at present but will made a world of difference in controllable development costs for the customer.

Heritage and History

The website contains a wealth of never-before-seen archive imagery from Lowrie Foods and is a step back in time for those that remember 3 digit telephone numbers.  All header graphics within the site had to be custom designed to remain sympathetic to the history and heritage of the company yet tie in with their newly chosen brand colours that purvey a very modern message.

Our MD’s comment

Chris Shaw, Managing Director of Clarity Web Design Newcastle, said:

“Working with Lowrie’s represented an opportunity to bring over a century of brand into 2011.  It is evident they have set themselves high standards that we’ve done our utmost to reflect online.

I can’t forget walking to the rear the of main warehouses with Tom and looking up to see the original wall writing of the Lowrie Foods signage from the 1800’s.  To think that we’d just brought a company online in 2011, with history dating back to the time of Queen Victoria, was a very pleasing achievement.

The website demonstrates how you can mix a modern design with a professional feel yet keep content interesting and informative.”
