Daily Express sells link to SEO companies

The Daily Express has come in for criticism after it was found to be selling links, through the form of advertorials, to SEO companies. Express Newspapers have been alleged to be marketing the availability of keywords in in advertorials with links costing £1,000 each.

Whilst it is very common for SEO companies to buy links containing relevant anchor text from popular sites, Google does not look kindly on the practice.

The Express ask those interested to produce articles of between 250-500 words in length, including links with keywords of their choosing.

Desperate press

The newspaper industry is in dire straits. With sales in decline for years, advertisers turning to new media and the likes of estate agents and jobs going online, the publishers are desperate.

With the exception of sites from The Guardian, Telegraph and The Times, most newspaper websites are poor. They have been slow to adapt to online opportunities and regional newspapers have been nothing short of negligent in their blinkered and amateurish approach.

So, it comes as no real surprise that Express Newspapers are trying everything they can to bump revenues. Good luck to them - and good luck to the fools who spend money with them. There are far better opportunities out there, for much less spend.
