Commodore 64 Emulator now available on Apple iPhone
Just when all the kids of the 1980's (our MD was well into his teens by then) are losing their memories of those hazy days as a child - the Commodore 64 emulator comes to the Apple iPhone. Prepare for lots of wasted hours!
The C64 was such a huge success as an early home computer gaming platform that the release of this application was inevitable. Apple had initially rejected calls for the emulator release but has now given in.
For £2.99 (we're in the UK but let's say $4 for arguments sake) you can download the app for your iPhone and get Dragons Den, Le Mans, Jupiter Lander, Artic Shipwreck and Jack Attack bundled with it to begin with. Rumour has it that the Commodore Sports Pack will be arriving before too long.
The iPhone is already a threat to the Nintendo DSi and the release of more potential classic gaming gives it another arrow in the quiver. What we want to know is how long do we have to wait for Way of the Exploding Fist and Thing On A Spring!

Why Retro?
The clamour for a retro platform on the iPhone is an interesting subject. Many would argue that the graphical intensity of modern games has seen the demise of one of the most important factors - gameplay.
There is little denying that the Commodore 64 saw the arrival of some of the best gameplay ever released. Classics genuinely number too many to list and when an emulator hits the iPhone in the way this will - you can be assured of it becoming one of the biggest sellers the App Store will have for some time to come.
Many owners will probably frown at the low resolution sprites but it won't take long for them to be won over by some of the simply outstanding gameplay that the C64 creations brought to the mass market.
