This is it, the definitive list of the UK's most searched for products or brands in 2009. See the right hand column for the Rapid Risers.
UGG continues to be a hugely successful brand in the UK with the number of searches for 'ugg boots' and 'ugg' being higher than the other top 8 styles of boot combined (footbal boots, wellington boots, mens boots, ladies boots, nike boots, pink boots etc).
It's no surprise that laptops demand attract such high search volumes. HP and Sony dominate the brands searched for, with Dell following close behind. Acer is edging very close in volume and Toshiba fills the remaining 'Big 5' slot. When taking the Vaio brand into specific account, Sony easily beats its competition in overall searches.
Another Sony brand makes the top 10. Search volumes for all things PS3 continue to remain high with Call of Duty 5 on the PS3 topping the list. PS3 accessories remain widely in demand and Guitar Hero continues to be one of the most specifically searched for PS3 terms.
Beating it's main rival by one spot is the XBox 360. The most popular searches for the XBox are all in relation to wireless functionality - so whether it is all good news for Microsoft is another thing altogether! Call Of Duty isn't as popular for the number of searches when compared to the PS3, but it and Guitar Hero still figure in the final count.
Nokia as a brand remains highly searched for. The 5800 tops the searches by a long way ahead of the N95, 6300 and 6500 models. Volume for the 5800 was more than double that of any other Nokia phone in the first 4 months of 2009.
Bad news for both Microsoft and Sony! The Wii continues to dominate the games console market in the UK as far as overall search volume is concerned. This is largely down to the collosal popularity of Wii Fit, easily top of the list. Guitar Hero is by far the next most searched for Wii item.
eBay is as popular in the UK as ever. Searches for it (puzzling despite its four character domain name!) are incredibly high and the Apple iPod is often used in tandem as the keywords 'ipod ebay' rank second only to eBay on its own. The XBox 360, dresses(!) and laptops follow closely behind.
Despite no longer being a new technology, internet search volume for LCD TV's is still way up there. 32 inch variants remain by far the most searched for and Samsung is the brand of choice with Sony next up. 'HD TV' is making rapid progress in respect of searches.
No surprise here - Apples fabulous little device looks down on most other search volumes with its endearing popularity. The iPod Touch and iPod Nano are the most searched for with the Classic and Shuffle next. 8gb is the preferred size when searching and the iPod Dock is the most in-demand accessory.
A major surprise? Not really. The compact lightweight Samsung NC-10 notebook, their range of TV's, the Tocco mobile phone and their incredibly strong communications range in general has seen Samsung fly to the head of the list. They'll be difficult to knock off this perch with such a strong product line-up at present. Well done Samsung!
